The ancient city of Antiphellos is located in the Andifli neighborhood of Antalya’s Kas district. İs an ancient city located in the Antalya Province of Turkey, along the Mediterranean coast. It was originally a Lycian city and later became part of the Roman Empire.

The city of Antiphellos was situated on a hillside overlooking the sea, providing strategic importance and a beautiful setting. It thrived as a major port and trading center during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The city was known for its maritime trade, particularly in timber, olive oil, and Lycian products.

Antiphellos had a well-developed urban infrastructure, including a theater, agora (marketplace), temples, and public baths. The theater, carved into the hillside, is one of the notable remains of the city. It could accommodate around 4,000 spectators and offered breathtaking views of the Mediterranean.

The ancient city also had a necropolis (burial ground) located outside its walls. Lycians practiced a unique burial tradition where they carved tombs into the rock faces, creating elaborate and ornate facades. Some of these tombs can still be seen today, providing a glimpse into the ancient funerary practices of the region.

Over time, Antiphellos went through various periods of occupation and decline. It was eventually abandoned and largely forgotten until archaeological excavations in the 20th century unearthed its remains. Today, the modern town of Kas has developed around the ancient site, blending history and contemporary attractions.

Visitors to Antiphellos can explore the ruins and marvel at the well-preserved theater, walk along the ancient streets, and admire the rock-cut tombs. The site offers a fascinating glimpse into the ancient past and provides a scenic backdrop with its stunning coastal views.

It’s worth noting that while Antiphellos is the ancient name of the city, it is commonly referred to as Kas today. The modern town of Kas has become a popular tourist destination, known for its charming atmosphere, crystal-clear waters, and opportunities for diving and snorkeling along the nearby coastline.
