Bergama Museum – One of the Best Museums in Turkey

The first archeology museum in Turkey, the Bergama museum was built in 1936. Inside, there are historical values ​​unearthed with great efforts at every step of Bergama. All historical artifacts obtained as a result of long studies are exhibited in Pergamon Museum today.

In the Pergamon Museum, there are columns, plates and inscriptions unearthed during the excavations. Artifacts from the Hellenistic, Byzantine and Roman Periods are in the Pergamon Museum.

Only some of the works are in the Pergamon Museum. Because there are a lot of artifacts in Bergama. Some of them did not fit in the museum. There are mosaics in a part of the museum. When there was no carpet, mosaics were used for houses and historical buildings. This is what the remaining parts of the mosaics look like today.

Mosaic art was used especially in the Roman period. There are jewelry used in the Roman Period in the showcases. Golds bracelets and more are also featured in the showcases.
There is also a section in the museum where the Altar of Zeus is explained. They showed the imitation of the Altar of Zeus in the museum. This altar was built after the victory of the Pergamon kingdom against the Galatians.

This altar dedicated to Zeus is a very large historical structure. It is one of the world’s seven wonders. The historic building, the size of four apartments, is currently located in Germany.
