Although the main exhibition hall has 3 floors, it has a gigantic structure with 4 main galleries, 3 rooms (one of which is a children’s room), a cine-vision room, a multi-purpose hall and art galleries. In addition to being Turkey’s largest naval museum, it also has the distinction of being the first military museum.

If we continue to give information about the Istanbul Naval Museum, the museum, which was first established in Kasımpaşa in 1897 during the reign of Abdülhamit II, was moved to its current location in 1961, and was reopened to full-time visitors in 2013 after the renovations in 2008. It is the largest museum in the field of maritime in Turkey, and it has managed to become one of the few museums in the world in terms of its collection and varieties.

Among the historical artifacts in the museum, the items belonging to Atatürk and the Savarona yacht and the historical galley attract the most attention. The galley, which has 2 masts, a total of 9 types of timber was used in its construction, and has 24 double oars, is the oldest galley exhibited in Turkey.

Among the works of the Istanbul Naval Museum, there are also historical boats, galleys, amphoras, stone artifacts, inscriptions, ship models, maritime items, royal boats and ship crests. The museum, where many large and small things are exhibited, is one of the places that should be visited in terms of shedding light on our history.
