It is known that Athames, the son of Dionysus, built this city. Besides being a commercial city, it is a city of artists dating back to the 3rd century BC. Persian domination is seen in 545 BC. Later, Alexander the Great, with his death, Antigonos, Lysimakhos and Seleukos ruled here. The ancient city of Teos came under the rule of Rome in 133 BC.
