Soli-Pompeiopolis Ancient City (Soli-Pompeiopolis Antik Kenti)
Greek settlers came to the region from Rhodes Island in 700 BC and established a colony in a place called Soli. Over time, this colony turned into a big city because it was located on the seaside. It was the capital of the province at a time when the Persians ruled Asia Minor. At that time, Soli started minting its own coins to show that the city was independent.
Not much remains of the port city of Soli, which was once important enough to be a capital. Among the structures that have survived are 41 columns placed along the main road leading from the northern gate of the city to the port. 33 of these columns are the protective symbols of the city. Entry to the ancient city is free.
